Step One: Obedience

I got a wonderful text this morning from a woman who bought a book from me about a month ago. In the last few weeks, she’s taken it to both coasts of the United States and read every word.

It’s so encouraging to read this note:

“As you can see from the dog eared book, I’ve read it from cover to cover. I completed it on my journey to Seattle. One of the most uplifting and fun books I’ve read…I enjoyed your humorous word combinations…”

Any author would love to hear a review like this. BUT, it gets better:

“Yet, you honored God through it all. Thank you.”

Man! That’s the point. That was exactly my aim when I God impressed this idea on me in the summer of 2017. I wasn’t sure I could do it, but I knew I wanted to be obedient.

The first step of any journey never looks like the summit. It looks like the first step. But, you won’t see the top of Everest without taking step one.

Step one is ALWAYS obedience to God.

I wonder if you are at the foot of your mountain today. Your Kilimanjaro stands in front of you. The peak awaits. The path God sets for our lives is rarely a simple stroll. This book journey of mine has been fruitful because of my initial step.

God wanted a book from me. I wanted to do it for Him.

Reviews like this morning’s text cement the fact that obedience to God delivers the fruit of God.

I’m not saying I’m at the summit yet with this book. Far from it. I have big plans and have set goals for it that will ONLY be accomplished if God carries the load. On my own, I won’t get there. That said, Finding Joy Beyond The Headlines has been a blessing from the start.

I just wrapped up Year No. 1 and it was amazing. I launched the book on September 12, 2018. I didn’t sell as many books as I was hoping for but still sold over 500! Customers donated enough money to provide over 1,300 meals to our community partner – PB & J For Tampa Bay. (Read about Mike Abramowitz’s amazing mission to feed the homeless in our AMBITION chapter), and did it all for Jesus.

Year No. 2 is off to a good start. I can’t wait to see what the next step takes me. After taking the first step of obedience, it doesn’t matter where the path leads. I know it’s headed in God’s direction.
