I had the great pleasure of sitting down with an incredible writer recently to share my thoughts on JOY.
Jennifer Rothschild was kind enough to endorse Finding Joy Beyond The Headlines. She was one of only three people I asked to endorse my book and she wrote some really flattering things:
“I’m all about looking for the good because when you do, that is exactly what you see. Blindness has taught me that no matter how dark life seems, there is still goodness and grace all around. That is why I love Bobby Lewis’ book! He helps us see beyond the bad news and focus our hearts on hope. I really think he may have the cure for the common headlines right here on these pages! After reading just one chapter, I was reminded that God is good. He is here. There is hope and joy is possible.”
Oh gosh. I’m blushing. Jennifer is a world-renown author, New York Times Best-Seller (!!) and wonderful woman of God. Read more about her ministry on her website. She hosts a podcast called the 413 Podcast, which is based on the popular scripture Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
She invited me to be a guest on her podcast. You can listen to the entire episode here. I took the time to pull a few of my favorite quotes from my conversation with Jennifer:
“What you look for is what you see.”
Jennifer is blind. She lost her sight as a child but says her blindness has helped her see God’s love in new ways. She said she appreciated the theme of the book, which is looking for God’s goodness through the horrors of the daily headlines.
“We may think that what God calls us to do seems for one moment in time or for one small gesture, but we have no idea how our small act of obedience God will use to prompt someone else and to prompt someone else and to prompt someone else and to feed 5,000.”
The idea that we can make a difference is vital to who we are as servants of Almighty God. His command is that we ‘love one another’, not tolerate each other in pursuit of our own passions. It’s that ripple effect that really matters. There are no ripples if you don’t make an initial move.
“Headlines do not take a day off but neither does hope.”
Boy, is that the truth. We are surrounded by headlines of shootings and death and evils and terror. They never take a break. That’s because the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Headlines that depress us are the bits of information the devil wants to succumb to. He doesn’t want us to find joy through them.
Thankfully, God has placed people in my life like Jennifer who share my outlook on the world. Joy seekers need to stick together to uplift and encourage others to find God in all moments.
