Is the cross enough for you in 2020?

What a way to kick off a new year. I was driving down a small country road on January 2 and saw this wooden cross standing tall in a field. It welcomed passersby to the entrance to a homestead. There was nothing else around and I am kind of glad it was that way. There were no distractions. There was nothing else to steal your focus. Whoever owns this property decided that the cross was enough.

Is the cross enough for you in 2020? It seems like a simple question with a simple answer. The reality is, not all of us will look to the sufficiency of the cross when storms arrive this year. We'll run to other things for comfort, relief, and joy, all the while knowing deep down that the cross is the only reliable source for any of those things. Why do we search elsewhere?

Hebrews 12:2 (ESV) "Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."

Finding Joy Beyond The Headlines is all about finding the joy around us. It's there, but we get distracted by all the minutia of life. We get antsy when our gaze goes sideways. This year, seek joy with all your heart. Seek God in every circumstance. Avoid the evils that try to steal, kill, and destroy your joy. Instead, run to the Father and bask in the joy only He provides through the cross.
